I'm so happy and feeling very relieved. It's been a long 9 months searching for work, completing applications, writing selection criteria (uuggghhhh) and then, if I was lucky, getting the 'thanks, but no thanks' email.

Anyway, I'm going back to the future and have been remployed by the employer (Menzies Group) I resigned from in May last year. Nearly 2 weeks ago, I discovered that my replacement's replacement was resigning. I emailed the branch manager, ccd the melbourne manager and CEO to let them know that I was interested. I was granted an interview last Tuesday and was notified last Wednesday afternoon that I was successful. In the 18 months since my resignation, the branch has undergone major changes and the role I had as administration officer has changed with it also. I'm excited about the changes and of course working with a new team.
It was very easy to get there. Once we turned onto the freeway in Morwell, our next turn was onto the correct exit to take us through Melbourne and then one more turn to pull into the motel carpark in Bendigo!

Neale had bought tickets for us to see the Edith Head exhibition which is currently being held at the Bendigo Art Gallery for the Sunday. I'd been wanting to see it since I read that there was to be an exhibition of her work

After we settled in, we went for a walk to explore the streets and town. We actually spent several days on our honeymoon in Bendigo - but I really can't remember too much now, 32 1/2 years later! Anyway we walked all over the place, went to see an art exhibition by an aboriginal artist at another gallery, I actually managed to make it to the top of the poppet head in Rosalind Park! Walked back to the town centre as they had an arts/crafts fair on in the evening with music in Hargreaves Mall. I bought myself a cute headband and we bought ourselves tea from a food stall - a deconstructed souvalaki which was very tasty. We then walked back to our motel - I barely made it too! So much walking, and I am so unfit. Lets just say that I managed walk around to view the exhibition on Sunday, but Monday-Wednesday, all I could manage was a hobble. My calves were painfully sore.

The exhibition was wonderful. To see the costumes that the film stars wore for their performances was amazing. Believe me - they are sooooo tiny. I didn't take very many photos - I figured that the show catalogue would contain a lot of what was on display - alas no. I think my favourite gown was a gold coloured one that Natalie Wood wore in "Inside Daisy Clover" in 1965.(bottom left below)
Top Left - Suit worn by Audrey Hepburn. Edith Head share the Academy award nomination for this film in 1958 with Givenchy and it is likely that he played a major part in the design of this costume.
Middle - Wedding dress worn by Barbara Stanwyck - I think!
Top Right - worn by Olivia De Haviland
Bottom Left - worn by Natalie Wood
Bottom right - can't remember who wore the purple outfit and can't work it out from the description in the catalogue The green Edwardian travelling outfit was worn by Barbara Stanwyck.
I just can't believe how fast it was - Dad had a slight cough on the Monday, on the Wednesday evening he was admitted to hospital with a chest infection and pneumonia and he died in the early hours of Sunday morning. He was 91.

My Father in Law had been a resident of a local nursing home - His house in Morwell, after being on the market for nearly a year had finally sold with the new owners to take possession at the end of September. So, it was an extremely busy September, dealing with the funeral and of course having to pack up and clean out the house. We got it all done in time - whew! We donated a lot of Neale's parent's things and furniture to the Salvation Army. I also felt so bad about having to throw so many of their things out - nearly 60 years of memories etc. Neale and I were exhausted by the time we completed it all. Obviously, cleaning out the house should have happened when my FIL entered the nursing home - but it was something that Neale refused to contemplate then. We've also got lots of boxes stored here at home and in our storage locker that will need to be sorted through. We're planning a big clean up and reorganisation of our garage and storage locker at the end of the year - psyching ourselves up for it!

I read an article/book advertisement on facebook (?) about death cleaning. There has been a book written by a Scandinavian author. Anyway the gist of it was as you get older you start preparing and decluttering and not buy into consumerism for the sake of it and only keeping the items that are meaningful. I suppose it is another form of the Kondo cleaning that was all the rage several years back.

Lots of reading and organising done these past couple of months. Still no job on the horizon despite lots of applications done and sent. I've had several more interviews, but no luck with them. I was told that internal applicants were hired, which seems to be a huge waste of everyone's time. Pretty sure that I totally suck at interviews also with stupid behavioural questions and being judged on how clever you are at answering them - apparently, I'm not! I have another 6 applications in progress - but it's been just on 3 weeks now, so I think they've gone nowhere, and will have to start applying again. uuugghhh!

Bought more patterns on Sale from Spotlight. It's an addiction I tell you. I could have worse addictions......
The weather is warming up - yayyy! I'm so over the cold and wet.I can finally turn off the heater and save some money on the electricity bills.

I had to see a surgeon yesterday - have got a spot/lesion on my face for years that just wont heal and go away. and has been driving me crazy. I saw my Dr last week to get it checked out and he immediately referred me to a surgeon. Of course the spot had decided to heal over ggrrrr - (it'll be back) but what stunned me was the brevity of the appointment. If I spent more than a minute in the consulting room I'd be very surprised. Anyway, it's getting removed under a local in a couple of weeks. Fun!

Still no luck as yet on the job front - although I attended an initial interview on Monday morning for a part-time reception position at a local lawyer's office and received a phonecall yesterday - they want me to come back for a second interview on next Monday morning. Here's hoping and fingers and toes are crossed! I even contacted the CEO of the previous company I worked for - had nothing to lose. Unfotunately nothing available as yet due to waiting to hear about contracts gone out to tender, so I'm hopeful I might hear word at the end of the month/mid August.

I've been ironing - the family are yet to recover from the shock! Totally dislike ironing, so I let it go until it's of Mt Everest dimensions (or so it seems to me) before I tackle it. Anyway, I'm pleased to say I'm now down to only 3 baskets to go. Have been rediscovering my clothes and have piles for tossing, donating and mending.

I've acquired more patterns - What's new? I bought the McCalls patterns from Spotlight last week - I bought 6 patterns for $21. Have just noticed that one of the patterns, missed being catalogued. The new Look, Threadcount and Butterick patterns came as extras with the UK sewing magazines I bought. Really happy with the Butterick #5488 as it has a larger size range than the one I bought some years ago - I seem to have grown a tad, unfortunately not heightwise.
Thankfully, Spotlight now has very regular sales and totally enables

I have also downloaded 5 patterns from the Stylearc range - 3
dresses, a skirt and a cardi. I've also downloaded a couple of other
patterns from other sites that look great made up. I've never used pdf
patterns before, so I'm hoping that there won't be any dramas. Just
need to make sure that I've got plenty of ink and paper first.

I've been out of work for now nearly 11 weeks. Lots of rejection emails. I've had 2 interviews so far, but was not successful - didn't have the required experience. I've still got about 6 applications pending, and am trying to be hopeful......but it's hard to be rejected. Neale's got this week off work, so hopefully we can do something/go somewhere (anywhere!) together. In about 3 weeks, I've got my English penfriend coming out to see us during her traveling aroung Australia and new Zealand. Sue and I have been writing to each other since we were about 10 years old. This will be her 3rd visit to Australia nad I'm really looking forward to seeing her and Steve again!

A quiet day at home spent with my family. I had a birthday lunch yesterday at the Churchill Pub as 2 of my children were working today.

Can't believe it's been well over a year sice I updated my blog. A lot has happened.

I turned 50 last year (shock, horror)

We adopted 3 kittens - Slinky, George and Roxy. Unfortunately, Roxy got sick with a fatal cat disease at the start of November last year and we had to have her put down - broke my heart. They're now about 14 months old and are total mischief makers and into everything. My lace curtains have been shredded!

Neale and I celebrated our 30th Wedding Anniversary In May

I resigned from my job to take up a position with another company.

My elderly FIL got sick in the 2dn half of last year and after 6+ weeks in hospital and rehab, we had to make arrangements for him to enter a nursing home as it was determined he was unable to live alone. Thankfully, he's only minures away from us and has settled in well and seems to be doing ok.

Laura completed her 2nd year of her Secondary Teaching Degree (2 more years to go - however, she has chosen to defer for this year and is virtually working full time at a Leisure Centre in Morwell and is hoping to save up some money for next year.

I bought a new car - A Mazda CX5, and sold to Laura my cute little Mazda 3. Laura finally got her driver's licence the day after she turned 21.

I got made redundant from my job after 9 months. Still a sore point - lots of tears and rude words have been shed and uttered, and have subsequently been out of work for nearly 9 weeks. I know I wanted a holiday - had visions of Hawaii. Alas, it's not going to happen any time soon now.

Our oldest son Thomas, has moved to Melbourne to live with his girlfriend. He was accepted and has started studying at Deakin Uni for a Primary Teaching Degree

Have been applying for lots of jobs - and have been rejected quite a few already too! Trying to be hopeful, but being realistic in knowing that the area has extremely high unemployment. I'm looking at admin jobs, accounts receivable work etc.

Have got a job interview for 2 1/2 months work (Accounts receivable work) on Tuesday for a local company - Recruitment Agency has just rung Fingers and toes crossed.

Still doing lots of reading - updated my reading list for April. Have been into Morwell this morning and picked up 2 magazines - Vogue Patterns April/May 2017 and Sew Style Essentials Issue 1. This is a British magazine that came with 3 Kwiksew patterns. I buy several of the British mags each month at the moment, but will have to discontinue if I can't find work soon.

Sewing wise - Mending! The last thing I repaired was Vee's (older son Thomas's girlfriend) denim jacket and is very sentimental to her. It used to be her Father's jacket and he brought it out of Chile escaping the coup in 1973. Next up, a coat to tighten up the buttons (I won't ell you how long Morgan has been waiting for that to be done and to repair a strap on Laura's dress - she got shoved by a jerk in a bar recently and the strap gave way.

Have had my trek to Spotlight yesterday and bought some Burda patterns that were on sale, woven interfacing, some pretty rayon to make a shirt and some wool blend to make a straight skirt. I've got plenty of fabrics/patterns to keep me going and will just need incidentals like zips, buttons, linings etc. I've also bought several of the Stylearc patterns recently and have a few in my shopping cart at the moment. I like the fact that they cater to larger sizes - so I'm hoping to have some success with them.

I'm not particularly interested in the horse race, but am loving the day off. Neale, has had to work today (suffer darling!!) - he'll get a day off in lieu over the Christmas break from the University he works for.

I've been across to Spotlight in Traralgon this morning. I discovered that Vogue patterns were on sale for $5.00 last night. I misread the sale catalogue I received last week and am happy I didn't miss it altogether. I had been waiting for Vogue patterns to come on sale for ages. I bought 11 patterns from my wish list and some more pieces of material - which is in the washing machine now.
Laura is planning on going to QLD in February with her boyfriend and a group of their friends. I'm hoping/wanting to make her some dresses and skirts to take. I've bought a pile of pretty rayons, cottons and voile - they all meet with Laura's approval! I've shown Laura some patterns and she's happy with my suggestions - it helps that she has marked pages of my pattern folders.
Below are some of the patterns under consideration - no doubt it will be very warm/hot in QLD in February.
I haven't seen this before - obviously I .don't get out much! Anyway, this is a brilliant feature. A place for tissues instead stuffed into my bra!! Hayfever season - thankfully it hasn't hit me hard yet.

I'm psyching myself up this afternoon to have a clean out of the storage locker - the boys have
"stored" a lot of rubbish down there over the years and i need to make some room. Laura is giving up her lease on the room she has been renting in Melbourne and will be coming home tomorrow with her stuff that needs to be stored - bedframe, mattress, screen, chair, shelving units etc. Laura has finished uni for the year and doesn't go back until March next year. She's got some people coming over tomorrow who might be interested in taking over her lease. She'd rather keep the $2500 herself than pay for a room she no longer needs. Heaven knows what she'll do next year - it's too far for a daily commute.

It has been very cold - our coldest in 26 years.
Yes, i know it gets colder in the northern hemisphere - you can keep that. Don't want to experience that - ever!!
Now hopefully, Spring is going to be lovely - and warm. None of the normal rainy Springs we get!

Monday was a public holiday, so i put it to good use!! I kind of remember telling my husband to 'suffer' -as he left for work. The university he works at doesn't get the public holiday - he will get 2 1/2 days paid annual leave over Christmas though. I read 2 books and then thought i'd better get moving and make a start on the mending. I'm easily distracted!

I mended a t-shirt for Thomas (minor detail that I'd had it a year to do!), I mended a pair of denim capri pants ( popped the stitching beside the fly - which kind of tells me that they were a little too tight to wear ), a blouse, a cardigan, another t-shirt, a pair of shorts, a skirt of Laura's and coverstitched the hems on 2 more tshirts. I set up my coverstitch machine which i bought xx years ago and had never used and it worked beautifully. I did have to google a tutorial on how to release the fabric from the machine - I'd forgotten!!!

Totally loved the idea of a 4 day working week - should happen every week!!! I was really looking forward to my next lot of annual leave which I was planning to take straight after Easter. 17 days off for only 9 days out of my annual leave allocation ( i'm counting the weekends and public holidays as well) - until our branch manager informed me that he had tendered his resignation and he was finishing up the Thursday before Easter. Yep, looks like my leave will be cancelled - major bummer!! Interesting times ahead for us at work - again.

Laura left to go back to Melbourne to University 2 weeks ago She has swapped unis and enrolled in a different course. She completed the first year of Game Design last year at RMIT but discovered that she didn't like it. She applied and was accepted at Deakin Uni and is now doing a double degree in Secondary Teaching and Art.

HAPPY NEW YEAR

Goodbye 2014 - Hello 2015

Lots of plans and ideas - now to implement them!!

I am aiming for a productive year.

Over Christmas/New Year, my sewing room became the junk/storage room - where everything got shoved into in cleaning up for Christmas. I finally excavated in there yesterday and tidied up - and now have it all but

clean again.

My sewing pattern addiction has not abated. I need to buy a couple more storage tubs to put the latest lot in. I've taken a bag of patterns into work to photocopy front & back of the envelope when I have some spare time.

Spotlight,I'm pleased to say seems to be having more regular pattern sales with patterns costing $5-00. I keep a listing patterns I want to buy on my phone.

During the New Year sale at Spotlight,I picked up a couple of pretty fabrics. A cotton sateen in a lightish grey with a splashy floral print and also a blue paisley print on a cotton pique. I'm thinking skirts. I'd love to get some more of the cotton sateen to make a matching jacket - I feel another trip to Spotlight is in my future!

I washed the lime rayon that I bought several months ago yesterday - only to discover that I had left it on my sewing table in front of the window - a little bit of sun damage!! Lucky I bought a little extra and should be able to work around it. I'll be buying a blind for that window on the weekend.

Have been on holidays from work for the past 2 weeks - it's been great not having to get up and go to work.
I haven't done anything exciting at all, and have kind of wasted my time off, if I'm being really honest with myself, however, I did clean the bathroom though!!!!
I've read lots of books, watched lots of dvds (Game of Thrones, Touched by an Angel, Longmire, Continuum, and am currently watching 3rd season of my all time favourite - Battlestar Galactica), cooked some nice meals.

Woke up on the first day, with a sore and swollen eye - Conjunctivitis again. My 3rd bout of it in 3 months so it was down to the Dr to get a prescription to clean it up. It took several days to heal and thankfully, it wasn't both eyes this time. The Dr ordered blood tests and a glucose tolerance test - so it was back on Monday to get all those tests done and back Friday morning to get results. I already knew that I was glucose intolerant and classed as having prediabetes - thankfully, I haven't yet developed diabetes 2, but I've been told it's important to get everything under under control - eating properly, exercise, losing weight (again). etc. Bummer.

I've had several expeditions to Spotlight whilst I've been off and have bought some lovely fabrics. I bought a pretty daisy print - actually it was a curtaining fabric. A length of blue suiting - which I bought on Tuesday, only to discover it went on Sale on Wednesday at nearly half price - aarrgghh. Why did I not read the catalogue more carefully? On Friday, I bought a lime green rayon. Lime is not really a colour I've worn in the past - but I was drawn to this.

In the past, I used to wash and iron every piece of fabric I bought - as soon as I got it. In recent years, I've gotten lazy and have just put them away.
I had the brilliant idea of washing quite a few pieces - that was easy. Now it's time for ironing - which I hate, and it's taking ages to do. Most of my fabrics are between 2m - 5m, so lots of ironing to do.

I've had to retake Laura's measurements. Since starting Uni in March, she has lost about 16kg (35lb) in weight - lots of walking and stair climbing.

I spent 3 days this week waiting for a plumber I called to show up - he was supposed to be out Monday afternoon. Neale rang again Thursday morning and he finally sent one of his men around. to do all that I needed doing. He discovered that we had a as lea happening as well - so that got fixed as well. Now I'm pretty sure that I won't be waiting for very long until his bill arrives though! I wonder if I can charge him for my time wasted??
Now I need a plasterer to come in and fix up a hole in the cornice and ceiling - we had a heater in the lounge room that was removed by the plumber. I think I'll just tape up the hole and wait to Neale has leave at the end of the year before we get that fixed up.

The weather has been glorious of late. I'm hoping that all the cold weather is now a thing of the past. My hayfever hasn't kicked in as yet - but I've stocked up with Zyrtec for when it does.

We've had to buy Laura a new laptop computer this morning - her laptop has just died (power supply problem) she went to use it yesterday for her design work - assignment due on Monday and no go. She can't get the info from it and we've now got to send it away for a warranty repair which could take several weeks. We're hoping that she'll be able to get the programs she used downloaded to this one and will just have to redo all the work again with apologies to the lecturer that her assignment will be late. She's only got about a month of uni before 1st year exams start. Not a good time for a computer to cark it.

Jen Shttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18206287811059420129noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5673658157916461740.post-13248140809937918942014-07-16T14:01:00.000+10:002014-07-16T20:36:29.026+10:00Home AloneI'm home alone and trying to keep warm.

I'm currently off work on sick leave. I woke up early yesterday with a funny tummy and feeling very queasy. so thought I'd take a sick leave day - normally I'd go to work . Today I'm somewhat recovered but with a nagging headache so elected to stay home and rest/relax. Probably a very mild dose of gastro - but not fun. I've been reading and watching dvds. I'm on a ''Lord of the Rings" marathon today.

Neale flew to Adelaide yesterday to attend the funeral for one of his cousins - he's due home tomorrow night.
Neale finally completed his exergesis for his Master of Fine Arts - it's been a long 4 years studying part time. He's been officially told he has passed. He is now in the process of completing the paperwork to enrol in doing his Phd. - another 8 years of study coming up, although he hopes to complete it a little faster than that.

Work has been extremely busy up until last month. I was unable to take my usual 2 week break in March. The company I woke for was awarded the contract for 'çleaning of Morwell' after the mine fire, so that kept everyone hopping. I think we organised cleaning of over 900 houses, all council buildings and streets throughout 4 towns. We also had to start 2 very big contracts at the same time.
I've got 2 weeks annual leave booked in for September and so can't wait.
Was not feeling the love for work last week - the Manager and I really got reamed out by the 2IC of the company a week ago. Apparently nothing I/we do is done the company way and if I hear the phrase 'moving forward' one more time, I'm going to scream! I really can't stand 'management speak'.

Laura has completed her 1st semester of University. She's been at home for the past 6 weeks on mid year break - but went back to Melbourne on Monday - Uni parties to attend!! She texted me her results yesterday - 3 distinctions and a credit and she thought she wasn't doing well.. Very proud of her.

Morgan - son no 2, was in a car accident a month ago - not the phone call anyone wants to receive. I'd just walked in the door when Morgan rang to say he'd been in an accident. He's okay, but wrote off his car. He had to brake suddenly causing him to skid and veer into an embankment and ended up flipping his car onto the roof. Thankfully he was unhurt and didn't hit anyone else. Unfortunately, it has proved to be a very costly exercise as he had neglected to pay his car insurance and still has a sizable loan to pay off. I'm just thankful he escaped uninjured. Of course it was so dark, cold, wet and windy the night of the accident and I just can't get over that I was just 2 minutes ahead of him on the road.

My sewing room is in a mess - alas, not from my industries. The family (Neale & Laura) have put some stuff in there for the time being- to get it out of their rooms etc!! I'm redepositing it all back to them - well apart from the bed frame and mattress that managed to find it's way there instead of the shed.
I've been stalking the pattern websites for latest offerings. I quite like M6995 and M6993 (skirt & Jacket) and also M6996 (cardigan)
Have just seen the Vogue have release their Autumn patterns - I've got 7 of the new ones added to my wish list - just waiting for a very good sale at BMV now.
I've bought some very nice fabrics from Spotlight - cotton sateen and some knits. I love corduroy - but managed to restrain myself as I have several (okay quite a few - maybe alot) pieces already in my collection.

Best wishes,

On Sunday, we took Laura to Melboune - and left her there!!!
Laura starts at RMIT in Melboune next week. She's going to be doing a Bachelor of Arts in Game Design - she takes after Neale and is very artistic and is very into computer/console gaming etc. We've got her accommodation in a UniLodge about 5 mins walk from the University. We took down her stuff and helped her get settled.
She'll be coming back home this Friday/Saturday and I'll go back with her on Sunday - we'll take some more of her clothes and things for her then.
Laura was given a small scholarship also by the University which is a great help - we've applied for a Youth allowance for her and hopefully she/we will qualify for - anything to help cover the accommodation fees. If we don't qualify, I told Neale to get another job!!!!

Neale is busy this Sunday - setting up his art show at the gallery here in Churchill at Federation Uni. This is Neale's show for his Master of Fine Arts degree. He had to hand in his exegesis in January (19000 words and 90 pages long). he's got 15 of his artworks printed up for this show. Opening night is on Tuesday 3/3 - the culmination of 4 years part-time study.
He's now mentioning do his doctorate - 8 years part-time and will most likely stat that next year.

Sewing wise for me - just some mending and reading lots of magazines. I got a phone call from the newsagents in Morwell requesting that I pick up my collection of Threads and Vogue magazines - 5 of them! Gulp, very expensive to pick up all in one hit!

I finally found pininterest and some time to have a look at it. Have been pinning clothes that I like and what I think that Laura would/might like.

Happy Wednesday

Hello from the very smoky Latrobe Valley!!

Fires begun on Friday 7th between Morwell and Moe - The freeway between the 2 towns was cut and so was the rail line - didn't get reopened to Monday morning.
It was a very hot day feb 9th with gusting winds nearly all day with a very high fire threat - which of course happened and the fire started on Friday were helped along by an arsonist (s) on Sunday.
I spent most of the day trying to keep cool and following all the fire reports. Parts of Morwell were threatened and many people were evacuated, and it came so very close to the paper mill at Maryvale (I think it's is/was the largest paper mill in the southern hemisphere!)
It's been over two weeks since 2 very large grass fires joined - and unfortunately, straight to the Hazelwood Open Cut coal mine. A fire did get into the Yallourn open cut mine, but that was brought under control last week.
So many fireys, from around the Victoria and interstate have been battling to put out the blaze. It is burning in a disused part of the mine along a 6km front and about 1km down and several metres into the coal face, and although they have managed to control about 1/2 of it now, it is still going to take many more weeks until it is totally managed. As you can imagine, we are bathed in heavy plumes of choking smoke, lots of very fine ash. Totally horrific. Many people are experiencing side effects and the air quality readings have been abysmal - but apparently there is no long term danger according to the experts???
We evacuated our office last Wednesday as the smoke was so bad and very nearly did again today-only the wind changed and blew the smoke away - rats, I really wanted to go home. My office is about 500m away
from the mine.
The photo below is one Neale too tonight at approx 5.30pm. He took it at the end of our street here in Churchill - You can hardly see the 8 chimneys of the power station - the smoke kicked up again at about 4.00pm with fire spreading to a coal bunker and conveyer storage area. An incredible amount of smoke and there were 3 huge helicopters flying over and dousing the fire. They were filling up with water from the Hazelwood pondage - which is a cooling lake for the power station. A little while later the roads to Churchill were blocked off in case the fire spread - it was a very warm day and the winds really kicked up - I had hopes that I wouldn't be able to make it to work tomorrow - but the threat passed and I'm sure the roads are open again! (drats)
